I tried her out because she was new and the daily quests keep asking me to queue for all roles which, as we know, really means support. She can shred through squishy DPS characters and heals plenty, at least enough to scratch my Mercy itch. Being able to reach upward of 9,000 healing in quick play while getting eliminations is like playing DPS with a bit more utility, and that’s what makes Kiriko so refresh
Live-service games tweak heroes all the time, of course. Hanzo, for example, is likely to get a nerf soon. But this doesn’t feel like a typical tweak to the meta, and instead like Blizzard has changed Mei just because. It’s not only her gameplay that has changed either - it’s her look too, and that’s another major letd
Failing to do so consistently will lead to a constant stream of deaths or a lack of focus, because without a tank to move alongside, all your teammates can do is flounder around and hope for the best. I’ve been on the other end of this conundrum constantly since launch. So many matches have been lost because a dipshit tank doesn’t play the objective, or charges in before immediately complaining that I wasn’t around to heal him despite jumping into the fray being impossible. Bad tanks are the worst, and I don’t want to take on that reputation because I end up making a silly mistake. Anxiety is one hell of a thing.
And of course, it must be said that loot boxes weren't simply disliked because they were annoying. A study in 2021 also stated that loot boxes are "structurally and psychologically akin to gambling", and suggested that a third of players buying loot boxes could be classed as "problem gamblers". However, with this many overwatch 2 Achievements|Https://overwatch2tactics.com/ 2 players complaining about the new system put in place, the battle pass hardly seems to be an improvem
However, not everyone in the subreddit is looking at the past through rose-tinted shades. While agreeing with the criticisms against the battle pass, Ranrokk points out that loot boxes were still manipulative, often containing limited-time loot to incentivize spend
Overwatch 2 needs to stick with what it’s good at and that’s its own ideas. It has comics and they’re all about existing characters, its own world and lore, and it has new skins that boil down to these heroes doing what we do during festive seasons - dressing up in themed attire. There’s no need for Darth Vader Reaper or a Planet of the Apes Winston when Blizzard has continued to make its own striking designs that are just as popular. There’s a scramble when events start that has people grinding out loot boxes for a chance to get one of the new skins, even though they aren’t tied to any existing IPs, and I’ve no doubt that will continue in Overwatch 2 even without loot bo
Being a tank is scary. You need to lead the way, make the decisions, and be the driving force for your team that encourages them to push forward and claim victory. I’ve written about the role in Final Fantasy 14 and how it will never be for me, but Overwatch was an exception.
For years, I was a D.Va main. A stylish gamer girl in an energy drink-fueled mech that could launch into enemies and blow them to pieces with an explosive ultimate attack. I have 21 of her 25 available skins, and used to pick her almost immediately if I wasn’t expected to fill a healer role because my team was useless. I am not a Lucio main by choice, it is a burden I was given out of obligation, and one I take on more often than not now playing tanks is kinda scary. A single tank means you must lead the entire team, defending DPS and support alike as they move across the map and push the objective.
Mei is a larger woman, with thick thighs and chubby cheeks. Some skins have struggled to grasp this - her regular skin is an overcoat, and when special skins take that away, they can struggle with her waist. But still, in a game full of slim and slender feminine ideals, Mei was doing it for the big girls. Unfortunately, her new look is much slimmer, the coat less bulkier, and more determined to show off her small waist. Her face is slimmer too, the cute cheeks replaced by a sharper, more shapely visage. Not only has Mei’s main gameplay gimmick been taken away, but her aesthetic appeal has too. We have lots of slim, beautiful women in Overwatch to play as. We have no one else like
Whether I bother in competitive with support is up in the air right now. It’s still a headache dealing with angry and ungrateful teammates who splinter across the map and somehow expect to get healed all at once, but at least now I’m enjoying the role again. The rush of scrambling to a critical marker to fill up their health bar while fighting back enemies is exhilarating in a way you just don’t feel with DPS, and the key role you play in ensuring your team’s survival is a wholly unique responsibility. I doubt I’ll ever be a Mercy main again or voluntarily choose healer with my friends when Roadhog and Orisa are right there for the taking, but at least I know that if I gotta pick healer, I have someone I’ll actually enjoy play
